A smart link is one URL that sends visitors to different destinations by rule, such as their device, their country, or the music app they use.
A normal link always opens the same page. A smart link checks something about the visitor first, then picks the destination. Common rules are the device (iPhone or Android), the country, and the time of day.
Musicians use smart links to share one URL for a release that opens the right streaming app for each listener. App makers use them to send iPhone users to the App Store and Android users to Google Play.
The rule runs on a server before a redirect, so a smart link adds one extra step before the page opens. It also hides the final destination from the person who shares it.
Example
A band shares one link for a new single. Listeners on an iPhone land on Apple Music, and listeners who use Spotify land on Spotify.
In pageo
pageo links open the same destination for every visitor. For music, add a Spotify or Apple Music link as a player, so visitors can listen on the page itself.
