Open Graph is a set of meta tags, such as og:title and og:image, that control the title, text, and image shown when a link is shared.
Facebook introduced the Open Graph protocol in 2010. Today WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Slack, and many other apps read the same tags to build the preview card under a shared link.
The four basic tags are og:title, og:description, og:image, and og:url. X reads its own twitter: tags first and falls back to Open Graph.
Apps cache previews. After you change the tags, an old preview can show for a while. Some platforms offer a debugger that fetches the page again.
Example
Without Open Graph tags, a shared link shows only a bare URL. With them, it shows the page title, a one-line description, and a large image.
In pageo
Every pageo page has Open Graph tags and a share image built from your profile. On Pro you can write your own SEO title and description.
